On November 26, 1922, Sasaki Shouten” was founded in the Yokogawa district of Hiroshima City. This year, we are proud to celebrate our 100th anniversary.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us on our journey so far.

From the very beginning, we have had a philosophy of delivering health, wellness and happiness through food. This core value drives us to create products that not only meet customer needs but also bring them delight.
Our concept of food culture embraces moments of joy whenever people come together over a meal. We aim to create products that foster this culture and showcase the best of a classic food ingredient: flour.

Seiichi Sasaki

Seiichi wanted to bring happiness to the world. His idea of Monozukuri (the Art of Manufacturing) was to never use a single drop of ingredients which were bad for people, and he applied this conviction in his work every day.
Today’s Otafuku Sauce grew from this philosophy, and it is an integral part of our culture today and into the future.

Seeking the way of truth, deeply and mutually absolving our sins and sincerely praying for world peace.

Seiichi had a tough childhood, but overcame the hurdles facing him through tenacity and constant improvement.
Even when his shop and house were completely destroyed by the atomic bombing, he never lost sight of his passion to “create products that people will enjoy.”
Seiichi believed that living in peace of mind, having a stable job, and creating a safe world are the keys to happiness, and spoke of how the world being at peace is important above all.

We believe that the spirit of Otafuku begins by thinking of others first. We illustrate this concept with the intriguing example of water in a bowl.
If you try to scoop water toward you, however hard you work, the water flows away once you stop scooping. However, if you push the water towards someone else instead, it will always bounce back to you.
We believe that business is the same. Instead of simply trying to raise your profits and keep the happiness to yourself, spreading happiness to everyone else will before long result in good things coming back to you.

Company founder, Seiichi Sasaki, opens “Sasaki Shouten” as a sake and soy sauce wholesaler/retailer in the town of Yokogawa (Hiroshima-shi).

1938 Vinegar brewing production starts.

Vinegar brewing production starts.

Vinegar production starts with the idea of further expanding the appeal of delicious and healthy products. The spirit of our founder, Seiichi Sasaki, has been preserved to this day. His mottoes for manufacturing products were “Never use anything harmful to the body” and “Each drop is imbued with our spirit and history.”

After the end of WWII, we started the production of sauces in order to prepare for the upcoming age of western food. We heard complaints from owners of Okonomiyaki restaurants that “the thin sauce flows right onto the grill,” and in response, we repeatedly tried to create a sauce to match the okonomiyaki.

1975 Dates are added to our Okonomi Sauce recipe.

We started using dates as an ingredient of our Okonomi Sauce.

We started to use dates in our recipe because of teir high nutritional valie.We have continued to use them as our special ingredient to this day. In addition to the sauce recipe, we now also use them to produce our vinegars.The growing regions and types of dates we use in our products are carefully selected. We even take the time to process some of them on our own.

2013 Overseas factories are completed.

Qingdao Factory and Los Angeles Factory are completed and start operation in 2013.
Malaysia Factory is completed and starts operation in 2016.

Otafuku is known as one of Japan's biggest seasoning sauce manufacturers and continues to grow. The founder's two-pronged philosophy, “Never compromise the quality of the ingredients” and “Every drop counts,” has been successfully carried out by the generations that followed. A strong passion for better products lives on.
